Your Rainbow Wedding Diet

{Posting by Alice Cowen of Fitness DNA, Before the Big Day's Personal Trainer & Nutritionist} If you're finding it hard to focus on your wedding diet, here's a fun, simple and easy way to eat more healthily. I call it The Rainbow Diet. Not only is it super-slimming to eat more vegetables and fruit, but if you eat a multi-coloured diet, you'll be getting a mixture of antioxidants, which are the clever substances believed to lower the risk of cancer, heart disease, and memory loss. Different colours contain different kinds of antioxidants, hence a rainbow diet gives you the best all round nutritious diet. Each day try and eat something from each of the colours of the rainbow!

Green such as spinach, asparagus, avocado, artichoke, broccoli, peas, beans, apples, grapes, kale, sprouts.

Blue such as blueberries

Purple
such as grapes, aubergine, purple carrots, plums.

Try it and see how you feel after a couple of weeks.

Top 10 Wedding Fitness Tips

1. Don't start training too early, you might lose momentum, 10 to 12 weeks should do it. So if you haven't started your wedding fitness plan yet - it's never to late.

2. Find 2-3 different types of exercise you ENJOY otherwise boredom sets in.

3. Train 4-5 times per week for 45 minutes to an hour to really blitz your bride-to-be body. But don't train everyday, because rest days are just as important for your muscles to recover.

4. Never let yourself become hungry, healthy snacks are the way forward.

5. Stop drinking alcohol, or if you must, drink only one night per week.

6. No Chocolate, crisps, fizzy drinks at ALL

7. No second helpings

8. ALWAYS eat breakfast to kick your metabolism off for the day

9. Drink at least 2 litres of water per day

10. Weigh yourself regually so you don't lie to yourself. This way you'll get to see results, which will help you stay in the zone.

{Posting by Alice Cowen, Before the Big Day's Personal Trainer & Nutritionist} In the run up to the summer wedding season, I'm always hearing excuses from brides-to-be that they have no time to exercise. With favours and flowers to organise, and table plans to design, I'm not surprised you're feeling busy, but there's always time for those all-important mini wedding workouts. All you need to do is work out how to squeeze them into your daily routine, and you'll love how they help you drop those extra pounds. Below the pic are my Lucky 13 Top Wedding Mini-Workouts.

5. Go out for your lunch break for a half hour walk
6. Use your weekends well - go to the gym, or take up a sport with your husband-to-be
7. When you go out to a club, don't sit and drink, get up and get down on the dance floor
8. Get gardening, grow your own fresh veg
9. Don't fight for a parking spot as close to your destination as possible, park a little further away and WALK
10. When going on a date with your fiance or with girlfriends, don't book a lunch or coffee, instead suggest doing something active {yoga, swim, bike ride, horse ride}

12. While dinner is cooking, pick up your dumbbells and do 10 minutes of strength training

Your Wedding Diet - Detox with Herbal Teas

{Posting by Alice Cowen, Before the Big Day's Personal Trainer & Nutritionist} Last month I gave up caffeine. I'd realised I was drinking about two cups of coffee, five cups of tea and twp diet cokes every day, which is a crazy amount! I suffer from migraines, and had hideous caffeine withdrawal headaches for a week after giving up - I just hadn't realised how dependent I'd become on my daily hit. Giving up has made a huge difference. I have more energy, I sleep better and by replacing builders tea with herbal teas, I'm more hydrated than I used to be. I'm always nagging my clients to drink more water, and now I've discovered the secret to getting them to drink more! The great thing is that herbal teas aren't just the perfect way to hydrate - they have other benefits too....

Here are my top 10 herbal teas...
♥ Peppermint - 'stomach healer,' good for digestion and to decrease heartburn.
♥ Ginger - eases nausea and stomach cramps.
♥ Fennel - detoxifier, antioxidant, anti inflammatory.
♥ Chamomile - great sleep aid, soothes stomach aches.
♥ Nettle - anti inflammatory, cleanses the blood, helps with liver and kidney functions.
♥ Dandelion - aids digestion, relieves digestive disorders e.g constipation.
♥ St Johns wort - eases anxiety, irritability, and helps to uplift your mood.
♥ Licorice - relieves sore throats, coughs, menstrual cramps, and can increase libido!
♥ Lemon Balm - calming, soothing effects.
♥ Elderflower - detoxifier, relieves cold symptoms including catarrh.

Why not give it a go for a month and see what benefits you get? Let me know if it makes a difference. xaLx

Your Wedding Detox

If you're getting married this spring or summer, you've probably started thinking about getting slim and fit for your wedding. My routine consisted of two Bootcamp Pilates classes a week, plus tonnes of sushi, and Twinings Green Tea by the bushel-load. Green tea is a fantastic anti-oxidant, it helps your body get rid of toxins, and it's got just enough caffeine in it to help you off your coffee addiction! If you can't find green tea in your local shop, you can buy tea online pretty easily. It certainly worked, I felt super-lean by my wedding day, which made all the difference to my confidence as I walked up the aisle. For more information on herbal teas - check out the Twinings Facebook page.
