Ushers & Groomsmen Gift Ideas

Are you planning to hand out presents on your wedding day? Traditionally the groom gives the bridesmaids a little something, and possibly even the ushers get a look-in. As a couple, we completely failed on this front at our wedding. We'd run out of money and time, and apart from our wedding favours, no one received any presents, and I still feel slightly guilty about it! If I had my time again, I'd love to create bespoke cosmetic sets for my bridesmaids, and for the ushers....well, how about DIY-ing cocktail sets like these, according to their favourite tipple?

Wedding Trends 2015: Quirky Grooms

Loads of my friends are getting married this summer, and I've noticed a real sea-change in wedding styling. It's not all about the bride - grooms are getting in on the act. Bow-ties, floral shirts, tartan waistcoats, even powder-blue suits, the boys are putting as much thought into their wedding outfit as the girls. They're even surprising their brides with their look, turning the tradition of the 'first look' on its head. My favourite looks include linen for summer, colourful Converse sneakers teamed with a tailored suit, mismatched tie and shirt patterns, and waistcoats without jackets. Encourage your groom to raise the matrimonial stakes with accessories from fab UK suit companies like Dobell. For more fun unconventional groom ideas, take a look at my Pinterest board. Just hope your future husband doesn't go too far.....

Styling Your Groom

Grooms fall into two categories. They either couldn't get a stuff about how they look, or in the months ahead of their wedding, they suddenly turn into a complete peacock, preoccupied with every detail of their outfit. In my experience, most grooms end up falling into the second group - it's just a question of when.........and needless to say, it's usually with two days to go. My husband finally realised that he needed to buy himself a tie 24 hours before we left for France. Luckily we lived in London, so he wasn't short of options, but honestly, I could have killed him!! Make sure that doesn't happen to you, by buying your man one of these fabulous, fashionable ties from V Knit. Stylish, slim, and they come in every colour......simples!

Wedding Trends of 2014 - Unconventional Ushers

Weddings are ALL about the girls. The bride, the bridesmaid, the flowers girls....the groom and ushers must feel a bit left out. But that's all set to change thanks to this latest wedding trend for 2014, and it's all thanks to our lovely American cousins. Over in California, ushers {or groomsmen, as they call them there}, stepped into the limelight years ago - with their trendy braces, bow-ties, and cute matching socks. And now, thanks in part to the popularity of American wedding blogs here in the UK, the trend is winging its way across the Atlantic. And I couldn't be more of a fan! British boys are deliciously dapper, and slightly eccentric - the perfect combo for an unconventional usher. Whatsmore, the UK is the home of smart Savile Row tailoring, so I reckon we're going to beat the American boys at their own game. More fantastic groom ideas on my Pinterest board. Amazing Boutonniere Button-Holes for your Hubby

As I was writing up my recent {and fabulous} feature - 100 Ideas to Personalise Your Wedding, I realised that Before the Big Day neglects grooms. It's true, they're often not as interested in weddings as future brides, but I figure the more attention we pay them, the more likely they're going to get infected with our wedding enthusiasm! So when I discovered these incredible buttonholes or boutonniere {the French term now also used by Americans}, I had to feature them on the wedding blog! They're made by Tim Fritts & Erin Rosenow {aka Fritts Rosenow} in San Fransicso, and they're completely handmade and bespoke. So if you visit their shop, and you don't see a boutonniere that will work, then contact them, and they'll mock up something spectacular!

Equality, Engagement Rings & Grooms Gifts

Grooms always get slightly forgotten on wedding days. All the focus is on the bride, what she's wearing, and her veil, bouquet and bridesmaids. All the groom has to do is turn up in a decent suit with the wedding rings. Looking back, it all starts with the proposal. Girls get a sparkling engagement ring, and the boys....well they don't get anything really, do they! I reckon it's time for that to change - as a statement of equality. On the morning of your wedding, send your future husband a surprise present. If you don't think he'll wear an engagement ring, then why not cufflinks, or a luxury watch? You could have it engraved with your wedding date and your initials, and just like your engagement ring, he'll have it for life. {Now I've just got to hope my husband doesn't read this, and ask why he didn't get one on our our wedding day!}

Blooming Groom Inspiration

Floral fabrics have me in something of a spin at the moment. They're the go-to fabric for fashion forward brides this year - just take a look at the heavenly mismatched floral bridesmaids' dresses in this recently featured wedding for inspiration. But it's not just bridesmaids benefiting from the new growth {sorry!} in florals. Gorgeous grooms also look fabulous in a blossoming print, and I love these bow-ties and handkerchiefs from Etsy seller Fox & Brie. Made from new and vintage fabrics collected from all over the world, each tie is a limited edition, and handmade in-house. They're a fabulous addition to a gentleman's wardrobe, and no self-respecting usher should be seen without one!

Your Perfect {Subtle} Something Blue

It's amazing how out of all the wedding traditions, the 'something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue', has survived into the 21st century. Even the most untraditional of brides tend to sneak something from each category into their wedding outfit. If you're still looking for ideas for your Something Blue, I completely adore the simplicity and charm of this embroidered wedding dress label by Etsy seller Sunshine and Vodka. It comes fastened to a hand-stamped wedding card, so would work perfectly as a wedding day present for a bride {future bridesmaids take note!} or groom {sew it into his jacket or onto his tie as a surprise}. Each one is completely unique and made to order, and DIY-designer Paulette can add initials or a special blessing on request. For more ideas for your Something Blue, don't miss my Pinterest board!

Perfect Rustic-Chic Buttonholes For Your Groom

Feathers are a huge wedding trend this season, and they're a great way to gussy up your ushers' buttonholes. Couples preferring traditional boutonnières tend to choose simple rose blooms, but there's a fashion now for more boutique buttonholes, with different designs to reflect the groom's personality. I'm a big fan of these gorgeous designs by Pomp and Plummage. Handmade in Canada from hand-dyed feathers and ribbons, with pops of pink-berried millinery branches and wrapped with wool, these buttonholes would work perfectly for winter or early spring weddings. Why not add a touch of vintage woodland to your big day!

How To Be A Stylish Groom!

When it came to groom and ushers' accessories, our wedding was an epic fail. My husband never really got into the idea, and I'm terrible at male clothing. So although the ushers all looked fab, they weren't exactly matching! Now if I'd discovered French Knot Weddings before my big day, I would have been sorted. Just take a look at these incredible groom bow-ties and braces. Perfect for a shabby-chic wedding!

Boys! Feeling left out?

Okay, so I'm the first to admit Before the Big day errs a bit on the side of the bride, and although I don't want to send the men away, I would recommend future husbands check out GroomGroove and Staggered. GroomGroove is an American site, but it's still got plenty of hints that translate into English {!}.  One of my favourite tools is the Diamond Engagement Ring Calculator, where you can enter your salary and find out how much you should be spending....although I always thought it was supposed to be one months, not two?

Wedding Dress Jewellery

Cufflinks are a fantastic present for the special men on your wedding day. Choosing a pair that they'll all treasure for years is much harder. These silver cufflinks by Welsh designer, Kate Selene are handmade from samples of your wedding dress, which are sealed with resin to give a hard, durable finish. She even handstamps your wedding date on the back, making them an ideal momento of your big day. Buy them for your groom, his ushers, and the father-of-the-bride so they all match perfectly, and pick up necklaces and earrings for your bridesmaids. Alternatively, you could always buy them lucky wishbone necklaces, because you can never have too much luck!

Man Friday

Traditionally on the morning of the wedding, the groom gives the bride a pearl necklace. Yup, on top of the engagement ring, paying for the honeymoon, and possibly even the wedding itself, grooms are expected to shell out once again. Now if you're a future bride reading this, I reckon it's time to turn the tide, and take a look a what gift you could give your future husband. After all, he's already donated the sparkler on your ring finger, and in the days of equality, it's only fair he should get something special! And as ever, don't miss details of the offers and discounts on these gorgeous items under the picture.
