Colourful Accessories & Ideas for a Picnic Wedding

There's nothing I like more than spotting something that gets my creative mind grinding! Today it was all about wooden spoons......yes really! Take a look at these fantastic, colourful little spoons from Sucre Shop. Doesn't it make you want to throw a wedding and serve ice-cream in little paper pots? Or strawberries and cream? I can imagine them at a picnic wedding, where everyone sits on blankets and feasts from a central basket, before playing lawn games and roasting marshmallows on open fires. All of that from a simple spoon!! More picnic wedding ideas on the blog & on my Pinterest page.

{I want this!} Variety Pack 20 Wooden Spoons from Sucre Shop, approx £7

Shabby-Chic Jane Austen Themed Wedding Shoot - Part 2

Time for Part 2 of this incredible Jane Austen-themed wedding shoot. You've got to love English literature as the perfect wedding inspiration, particularly if you're planning a marquee or country-house wedding. With endless wedding ideas, you're going to want to copy every one of these pictures to your wedding Pinterest board. My favourite spots? I'm loving the blackberries in the bridal bouquet, the indoor as outdoor chandelier in the garden, the decadent picnic set-up, and all the vintage details, including the cake stand, apple crates and quilt. Dress your bridesmaids and pageboys in antique clothing, and add a traditional feel to your wedding day. Huge thanks to Dominic Whiten Photography for these beautiful pictures. Don't miss the list of all the other talented vendors who made this Wedding Shoot possible - after the pics. If you didn't catch Part 1, don't miss it - click here.

Shabby-Chic Jane Austen Themed Wedding Shoot

Romantic brides who love their literature are going to adore this beautiful Jane Austin wedding shoot organised by Melissa Love Design and Orchestrated, and photographed by Dominic Whiten Photography. Theming your wedding around your favourite book is such a brilliant idea, although you've got to hope your husband isn't a fan of Lord of the Rings, or you could find your ushers dressed as orcs! My wedding was loosely styled around The Secret Garden, which meant lots of vintage keys and a wedding reception in a walled garden. This Jane Austin theme sees tonnes of pretty nods to literature and books, with a traditional English tea and picnic, plus croquet on the lawn. Stealworthy wedding ideas include the adorable striped wedding stationery, the antique silver napkin rings {start collecting now at car boot sales and off eBay}, using fruit as table decorations, and traditional English blooms like roses and lavender. I also love the flower crown worn by the 'bride'. Buckets more wedding inspiration on its way in Part 2, published first thing tomorrow!

A Fabulous Picnic Wedding Theme

When it comes to any wedding, your biggest budget-basher is going to be feeding and watering all your guests. I think it's only fair to shout them a fabulous meal, particularly if they've come a long way, and many of them will even give you a wedding present. So before you start panicking, have you considered a picnic wedding theme? You could host it in your local park or parents' garden. Simply lay out blankets and cushions, or add gingham table cloths to simple tables, and create picnic baskets or boxes for your guests. Add bread, cheese, wine, ham, olives, salad and other treats, plus a little note encouraging your friends and family to make their own sandwiches. Pretty wedding stationery and details, like striped straws and paper bags, and DIY'd salt and pepper sachets will add to the theme, and DIY'd decorations like bunting will add to the whimsical charm. If you are unsure if you might have gone over budget, you could always take out your wedding calculator just to be on the safe side! Real Lemon & Lime Themed Texas Wedding - Liz & Del

You're going to love this lemon and lime themed wedding fresh from the US state of Texas. It's chock-full of inspirational wedding details - many of them cheap and easy to copy for your own big day. If you're looking for Texas wedding ideas, you could also try My Wedding Austin. I'm loving the antique books, the chequered table cloths, vintage lime pop drinks and the homemade wedding cakes. Lovely bride, Liz chose gorgeous green and white for her wedding bouquet, and I'm particularly keen on the giant poppy-seed cases, which conjure up the changing seasons. Most of all I'm head-over-heels with the outdoor wedding venue, set under the sprawling branches with a river nearby. Texans sure know how to throw a party, so if you're considering a destination wedding, check out My Wedding Austin for suppliers and ideas. Huge thanks to photographer Jen Huang for these stunning, golden-lit pictures.

Real Misty Autumn Wedding Plus Giant Cupcake!

This wedding just goes to show that even on a classic grey, English day, a wedding can be truly stunning thanks to the little details. If anything, it's the mist at this couples' big day that makes it all the more romantic and atmospheric. Jessamyn Harris took these gorgeous photographs at the wedding last week, and I just adore all the picnic details - the marshmallows, camp-fire and cushions - plus the GIANT cupcake is the best!

Before the Big Day Wedding Theme: Little Red Riding Hood

Now I'm not for a minute suggesting a bride should dress up as Little Red Riding Hood on her big day - but that doesn't make it wrong to use the Brothers Grimm tale as wedding inspiration. Red is a massively popular colour for winter weddings, and there's all the usual connotations of romance, lust and luxury. Use Little Red Riding Hood's picnic basket as inspiration for wedding favours, stamp her image on your place cards, and add cloaks to your bridesmaids' costumes. And if you want to go the whole hog, borrow a Siberian husky dog to act as your ring-bearer!

Cheap & Cheerful Picnic Wedding Idea

How about a picnic wedding? It would be fun and casual, and most of all cheap and cheerful. You wouldn't have to pay to rent tables and chairs, just rugs and cushions, and there's no need for a three course meal, just three types of cake! Your younger guests will love it, and you could follow up with classic park games, like rounders or croquet. Plus you'd have more money to spend on fun stationery, like these fab cutlery bags from Miss Pickles Press.

Real Autumn Wedding: Angela & Colin

There definitely seems to be a trend connecting autumn, orange and dahlias - as I've seen a fair few weddings that used them last autumn. It's not surprising, as dahlias are just the most gorgeous flowers, jaunty and colourful, and available in every hue under the rainbow. Angela and Colin used them to fabulous effect on their big day, scattering petals over the buffet tables, and arranging them in simple blue jars (also hugely in fashion) and even as a motif on their invitations. Other wedding ideas to copy list are the individual picnic rugs (brilliant favours), the cute ring cushion and the two-tone stripes on the bridesmaid dress- so much more cheerful than a block colour!  Many thanks to Jessamyn Harris for her gorgeous pictures.

Strawberry Fields Wedding Theme

Despite the howling gales outside and the pouring rain, my thoughts have turned to summer - I guess I'm just good at going to my happy place!  But I've been helped along hugely by this the fifth edition of e-zine Utterly Engaged, and in particular, this feature of theirs inspired by strawberry shortcake.  So many ideas, in particular their use of layered linens to create a truly individual effect. In other words, a wonderful source of DIY wedding ideas - don't miss their monthly online magazines.
