Wedding Stationery Ideas

There was a time when I featured tonnes of wedding stationery on this wedding blog, and I'm worried I've been slightly remiss by leaving it out. About a year ago, it was all I could think about, and I spent so long choosing my own wedding stationery, that we nearly sent the invitations out too late. Traditionally they should go out 3 months before the wedding date, but if you're getting married abroad, I'd move that back to four months, and send a Save the Date as soon as you know your venue. That way people can book their flights early. My other recommendation would be to ask people to RSVP fairly quickly. That way you can invite more people before it gets too late. We left it a bit too late, and ended up with only 85 people on our guests list, when my ideal number was 100. If you still haven't chosen your wedding stationery, then check out these gorgeous wedding invitation suites I've found this morning. See what you think, and do add a few comments if you've got any recommendations or advice on wedding stationery.

Cool New Wedding Stationery Design

If I look back at my own wedding planning, choosing the wedding stationery was where it all started. It's surprising how quickly you need to get the Save the Dates out to your guests, and then before you know it, you're three months before your wedding day, and spending a hundred pounds on stamps! For me, our wedding stationery was very representative of the atmosphere I wanted to create on our big day. So it's a good idea to create a few mood boards, and get a real sense of your wedding style, before plumping for a particular stationery or invitation design. I think I agonised more over our wedding stationery than anything else! Anyway, if I was to have my time again, I'd definitely take a look at Brownpaper Designs. They're a brand new, bespoke wedding stationery designer, and I'm loving their work. Just check out the cute vintage picnic set below.

Fun Heart-Themed Wedding Stationery

Add a splash for colour to your wedding stationery and wedding decorations thanks to these gorgeous new products from online stationery shop Papermash. I'm loving their Japanese masking tape, you can use it on all sorts of DIY projects from upgrading white candles, to tying your bridesmaids' bouquets. Meanwhile the heart hole punch has a double use - punching holes and creating confetti - love it!

Vintage Silhouette Stationery & Wedding Favours

There's something uniquely romantic about the silhouette. Hugely popular as gifts in the eighteenth century, they'll add an antique feel to a vintage wedding day. Add your profiles to your wedding stationery, or why not hire an artist to cut freehand portraits of your guests during the reception. I'd do it, but I hate my profile {huge nose}! Contact the Roving Artist or Karl Johnson for on-the-spot art, or Le Papier Studio for prints and invitations.

Cheap & Cheerful Picnic Wedding Idea

How about a picnic wedding? It would be fun and casual, and most of all cheap and cheerful. You wouldn't have to pay to rent tables and chairs, just rugs and cushions, and there's no need for a three course meal, just three types of cake! Your younger guests will love it, and you could follow up with classic park games, like rounders or croquet. Plus you'd have more money to spend on fun stationery, like these fab cutlery bags from Miss Pickles Press.

Brides and grooms planning a vintage wedding will want gorgeous stationery to match, so I was thrilled to discover Ally Hay's unique work. Ally is a freelance illustrator and designer, and she specialises in bespoke wedding stationery to suit all budgets. I love her use of old-fashioned seals, parchment paper and collage details. My DIY Wedding Stationery

When it comes to stationery, I'm slightly obsessive, and when it comes to invitations, I love to get creative. So when it came to my wedding stationery, I was always going to want to DIY it a bit. Well the invitations went out on Monday, and I'm really excited to show you these {rather badly taken} photographs. Everything about them, apart from the printing, was DIY'd, using punches, embossers, card and grey baker's twine. The lovely Darren at KopyKat Printing in Shoreditch ordered me my special bamboo card, and helped me get the hang of Quark, after I discovered my printer wouldn't accept thick card.

What do you think? My aim was to create a sense of anticipation for my guests, with invitations to each aspect of the wedding. We're having a London wedding for closest family, and a drinks on Sunday evening after the wedding, so I created invitations for those too. Ten couples will be staying with us in the Chateau, so I designed fun Do Not Disturb signs for them, and printed them on grey card from Paperchase on my home printer. If you're wondering about the gaps in the text, I've deleted some of specific details, just in case! If you really love the invitations, you can buy them from my new Etsy shop.

Invitation ready to send - front and back
Invitation and RSVP Postcard
Close-up of grey divine twine and key punched disc
Chateau Stay Invitation, Sunday Drinks Invitation & London Invitation
Everything! Including front and back of RSVP postacr
Key & Circle punch, plus T embosser

Update! Here are the pretty pictures of our wedding invitations, as taken by the lovely Caught the Light.

Wonderful Wedding DIY Ideas

One of the favourite aspects of my wedding planning has been the DIY projects. I wasn't very crafty before The Boy asked me to marry him, but I quickly realised that DIY was going to be the only way we could afford all the fun ideas I wanted to include in our wedding day. Plus, I think DIY weddings are always much more personal to the bride and groom. You can see my DIY wedding projects here - I've had varying degrees of success, and I'll be able to show you much more next week once we've finally sent our invitations out. In the meantime, feast your eyes on these fabulous crafting items from Inspire Lovely. Just looking at them makes me feel inspired, so I hope they give you plenty of wedding ideas too!

Great British Wedding Stationery

Love, love, love.....this wedding stationery! It's original, quirky and a great way to introduce your guests to your wedding style. If you're planning a wedding, you want it to reflect your personality, so choose something with character. I've recently discovered Artcadia, who design and produce bespoke wedding statinoery from their little home in rural Shropshire. They use recycled and biodegradeable materials and cover all wedding paper goods including wedding invitations, RSVP cards, save the date cards, menus, table plans and order of service books. That's pretty much everything you need then! Check out a few of their recent designs below.

Unique Wedding Stationery

Your wedding stationery should reflect the style and mood of your wedding, hinting to your guests what they can expect on the big day itself. So if you're planning a unique wedding, you'll want something more than the standard black swirly type on white card. Azulsahara designers' studio and boutique offers unique and memorable stationery which you can personalise in every which way. All  the designs are carefully selected, and printed in fantastic quality, with gorgeous finishing touches, like crystals and ribbons. I'm loving the 'something blue' blossom design below, and the stunning jewelled band in the bottom picture. Don't miss their website for plenty more styles and information.

Wedding Love Letters

This is why I love Etsy, it's just full of gorgeous, original wedding ideas. Just check out this vintage love letter, discovered on one of my rambles through the online boutiques. The letter is handtyped on high quality white paper with a matching handtyped envelope, and you can personalise it for your love. Simply send your message of under 100 hundred words, and Sepia Smiles will type it out on their 1930's typewriter. Whimsical, romantic, and totally old-fashioned - I love it! Based in Northampton, Sepia Smiles have plenty more wedding inspiration on their website and blog, and if you sign up for their newsletter, you get 15% off till the end of January. {P.S. I just got in touch with Sepia Smiles to tell them about the posting, and Roseanna is offering 20% off if you mention Before the Big Day!}

DoodleLove Wedding Stationery

So my search for wedding stationery has come back to haunt me. I found a fantastic designer called Follow Studio in Australia, but I left too little time to receive proofs, so reluctantly I've had to restart my search. Time just catches up on you, not least because the invitations have to be sent out three months in advance. I've made one New Year's Resolution already - this time, my graphic designer must be UK-based. But where to find them? I've discovered that great places to look for eye-catching, unusual stationery are websites like Etsy and Wedzu. I've made one discovery already, Doodlelove, via Folksy. Check out their website for more designs.

Just add a CD containing your wedding music and/or slideshow. The cover design can be customized, and the text is letterpressed in whatever ink you choose.
