You can't fail to fall in love with this beautiful quirky wedding, with its gorgeous bride and groom. Tasha and Niall decided to celebrate their wedding close to home - hosting their reception in their local - a great gastropub called The Londesborough Pub, and their ceremony at the nearby Stoke Newington Town Hall. I'm slightly obsessed with Tasha's amazing wedding gown - it's a 1970s original, and would you believe, she found it on Etsy for only £80! The dress needed only the tiniest of alterations, and even came with a little lace cape - super hero bride-style! We celebrated our wedding on 6th July 2013 in Stoke Newington in London. The ceremony was at Stoke Newington Town Hall, and we hosted our reception in the nearby Londesborough Pub.
My dress was vintage, 1970s, which I bought online from Etsy. I had spent a Sunday afternoon browsing through their listings, not expecting to find anything, and stumbled across the perfect dress. I always knew I wanted something from the 1970s - I still have my mum's wedding dress, which I love but sadly doesn’t fit {she was 5’ 2” and a size 8!}. It was a bargain of a find {£80} and only needed very slight alterations to fit.
I had always dreamed of getting married with daisies in my hair, but couldn't find any that didn’t look tacky, so went with forget-me-nots instead {and wore daisies in my hair for the hen do!}. My shoes were simple wedges from Office. My dress had a lace cape {super hero bride!} so no veil required! I bought my headband from Rock n Rose.
After a potentially budget busting trip to Selfridges, my husband eventually settled on a suit from TM Lewin, teamed with brown brogues.
Our wedding invitations were designed by a friend, and budding designer, Ellie Weehuizen. She did an amazing job! The design was very much Art Nouveau. My engagement ring is that style and era, so it seemed apt.
We’ve lived in Stoke Newington for the past few years, and love the area, so it seemed to make sense to get married here. We’ve been regulars in the Londesborough Pub for the while, too. It’s a gorgeous pub with lovely, friendly staff and the food is always amazing! The Town Hall then seemed the obvious option, as it is within walking distance of the pub!
Much to my sister’s horror, there was no colour scheme! I’d say the theme, if you can call it that, was eclectic and vintage. We wanted the day to be as relaxed as possible, so the theme matched that. I was really keen to make sure that nothing looked too coordinated – it’s just not my style!
I walked down to the aisle to an instrumental version of 'Kathy’s Song' by Simon and Garfunkel. We left to 'Mr Blue Sky' by the Electric Light Orchestra.
My bridesmaids' gowns were flattering neutral maxi-dresses from The White Company.
Our wedding photographs are by Michael, from My Beautiful Bride, who I also met at the wedding fair. We chose him because of his relaxed style of photography, and the effort he made to get to know us, and both our venues.
Michael was the perfect choice; not only did he take beautiful photos, but he was a delight to work with. Neither Niall nor I enjoy having our photo taken, and we were both dreading it, but he made it so relaxing and enjoyable!
Our first dance was to 'The Fourteenth of February' by Billy Bragg. An unusual choice, but we’ve been dancing to it since we first got together – it means a lot to us both, and the words are beautiful.
Our wedding bouquets were created by Flowers by Kirsty. I met Kirsty at a vintage wedding fair in Chiswick and clicked straight away.
The brief was to create a bouquet that looked like I'd just wandered into a meadow and grabbed a handful of flowers. I was so happy with them, they were exactly what I’d imagined, complete with leaves left on the stems so they didn’t look to 'perfect'.
